Summary Spirit of Math Schools is an exciting Canadian phenomena in education, offering above-average students an opportunity to stretch their understanding of math with others like them in an after-school setting.Spirit of Math is seeking a person who is looking for a work place where teachers enjoy the "sport" of math, like to share their passion of working with students, and equally, have the desire to stretch themselvesThis is not a tutoring position, but instead a teaching position for classes of highly motivated and exceptional studentsTeachers selected to teach with Spirit of Math are provided with paid training before they begin, as well as ongoing professional development each year that they continue to teach with Spirit of MathBecause of this exceptional training many of our teachers are highly sought after by school boards and private schools.The ideal candidate is patient, gregarious and highly dependableYou excel at connecting with children by providing a balance of kindness and firmnessYou understand the importance of providing children with a structured environment that will facilitate their learningYou are skilled at making others feel valued and includedYou are a team worker who has an innate desire to help others developIn addition to possessing the above traits, you have an eagerness to learn the Spirit of Math method of teaching mathematicsYou will be challenged to help students discover the conceptual building blocks and relationships which undergird mathematicsThe training you will receive as a Spirit of Math teacher will deepen your understanding of math and stretch your abilities as a teacherEducational Requirements A degree from a recognized college or university is necessaryA Bachelor of Education degree is an asset, but it is not mandatoryResponsibilities The Teacher fosters a high trust learning environment, develops the values and math skills of students and builds strong relationships with parentsThe Teacher will be responsible for the following: a) Effectively managing the classroom to maintain a safe, orderly learning environment b) Adhering to the Spirit of Math teaching methodology and administrative system c) Delivering lessons to students d) Grading students assignments, tests and exams e) Building and maintaining relationships with parents f) Addressing issues with students' performance and behaviour g) Drafting report cards three times per year h) Managing assistant teachers as needed i) Maintaining an up-to-date and accurate records of grades and attendance j) Performing peer evaluations periodically k) Attending professional development sessions several times per year
