TITLE: Tutor Northern Programs DATE: Sept 5, 2014 COMPANY: Elephant Thoughts DEPARTMENT: First Nations ProgramsSUMMARY OF OVERALL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1Teach science, math, and/or language, in English and/or French, as required.2Assist in the preparation of teaching/tutoring programs to deliver3Report weekly to head office in the format specified by email.4Promote the mission, membership and initiatives of Elephant Thoughts. SPECIFIC DUTIES:1Teach and tutor students in your designated subjects2Assist in the preparation of tutoring materials and lessons throughout the program3Assist other teachers when downtime permits4Attend ET head office to prepare equipment and make inventory using provided packing lists to deliver specified programs5Report any lost, damaged or transferred equipment6Take final inventory of program equipment against packing lists to ensure the return of all equipment to ET7Attend ET head office for training8Give training to new teachers of programs on site or at ET head office as may be required9Submit weekly reports in required format to ET head office.10Deliver programs to the highest teaching standards and in accordance with the ET Teachers Code of ConductReport any quality deficiencies11Use your creativity to devise ways of increasing tutoring program participation and effectiveness.12Ensure all participants in ET programs are aware of the ET brand, mission and initiativesDistribute ET literature and marketing material as appropriate REPORTS TO: Direct Report: Tara Bailey Functional Report: Marni Sandell KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS ESSENTIAL:Teaching/tutoring experience, preferably in Math, Science and/or Language/History Excellent oral and written English and/or FrenchGood presentation skills.Intermediate computer ability with MS Office, PowerPointAdvanced Internet research skills, email skillsAble to lift up to 50 lbsboxes on wheels Ability to engage and motivate othersFlexible, energetic, team player,Punctual, reliable, open to new experiences, continuous learnerExperience in a multilingual, multicultural environment.Cultural sensitivityProblem solver, takes initiative, positive outlook.Valid Canadian driver's license and ability to drive long distances on remote roads Current police clearance report with attention to vulnerable sector screening Available to travel to and between Northern CommunitiesAdaptable to living conditions in remote Canadian communitiesBe in good healthKNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS DESIRABLE:Teaching certificateExperience teaching children of various backgrounds Experience teaching children with special needsAble to market ideas and support for education foundation MINIMUM PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:Keyboarding 45 w.p.mAbility to write reports.
