Facilitate communication for Deaf students during extracurricular and special activities. Provide interpretation services for administrative and professional staff in sensitive and demanding situations. Provide interpretation services for school training sessions and workshops.How do I qualify?Mandatory: Graduation from an Interpreter Training Program or equivalent training and experience. Knowledge and Skills: Your background and experience enables you to meet the following requirements: Ability to interpret in a wide range of formal, informal, educational and professional settings. Knowledge and understanding of the Professional Code of Ethics (i.eAssociation of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada) and the Ontario Association of Sign Language Interpreters (OASLI), fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture. Excellent language skills including proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) including receptive and expressive skills and spoken English. Demonstrated familiarity with other communication preferences and issues (i.eoral/total communication including various sign systems). Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Experience interpreting in both small and large group settings.
