Ministry: Ministry of Education Division: Provincial Schools Branch Position Title: ASL/English Interpreter Duration: 1 Temporary, Seasonal position September to June recurring (position available January 2015) Location: 350 Dundas Street West, Belleville, ON Compensation Group: OPSEU Salary: $1200.58 - $1488.67 per week*Position Status: Open Job Code: 02792 Schedule: 3-7Category: Administrative Classification Group Job ID: 72118 (PSB14-157)The Ministry of Education, Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf, requires an ASL/English Interpreter to provide interpreting services in educational, residential, support and resource services programs for students and staff who do not share the same language, culture or communication method In this role you will: Provide interpretation services for individual Deaf students and/or groups of Deaf students in various classroom settings. Facilitate communication for Deaf students during extracurricular and special activities. Provide interpretation services for administrative and professional staff in sensitive and demanding situations. Provide interpretation services for school training sessions and workshops.How do I qualify?Mandatory: Graduation from an Interpreter Training Program or equivalent training and experience. Knowledge and Skills: Your background and experience enables you to meet the following requirements: Ability to interpret in a wide range of formal, informal, educational and professional settings. Knowledge and understanding of the Professional Code of Ethics (i.eAssociation of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada) and the Ontario Association of Sign Language Interpreters (OASLI), fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture. Excellent language skills including proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) including receptive and expressive skills and spoken English. Demonstrated familiarity with other communication preferences and issues (i.eoral/total communication including various sign systems). Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Experience interpreting in both small and large group settings.
