Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), located at Chalk River, Ontario is the premier research institution and the knowledge base of the Canadian Nuclear IndustryThe unique nuclear facilities and science and technology capabilities of the Nuclear Laboratories are applied to ensure Canadians and the world receive energy, health, environmental and economic benefits while assuring nuclear safety and securityResearch programs at the Nuclear Laboratories span across a wide range of nuclear science and technologyCNL is looking for qualified Postdoctoral Fellows to perform innovative and advanced research and development (R&D) using the following unique capabilities at CNL to advance CNL’s science and technology priorities, also listed below.CNL’s Unique S&T Capabilities:· Canadian Neutron Beam Centre· Irradiation and post irradiation examination· Nuclear safety, security and risk assessment· Radiation biology, radioecology and dosimetry· Materials and chemistry in nuclear applications· Advanced nuclear fuels and fuel cycles· System engineering· Advanced computing, modeling and simulations· Environmental remediation and nuclear waste managementCNL’s S&T Priorities· Understand, and address public perceptions of, the effects of radiation;· Enable CANDU technology as a key contributor to Canada’s energy superpower portfolio;· Understand, prevent and mitigate risks associated with nuclear operations and activities;· Advance the knowledge base for informed standards and regulations;· Enhance national and global nuclear security;· Secure options for future energy needs and sustainability through nuclear technology; and,· Develop, and demonstrate the minimal impact of, nuclear technologies on the environment.The Postdoctoral Fellows will work directly with a research team led by a subject matter expert, who will act as a mentor overseeing the research, monitoring progress, and providing guidanceResearch topics will be established jointly between the candidates and the mentorsThe candidates are encouraged to submit their innovative research ideas on a specific topic for considerationThe candidates will be required to document the research findings in CNL internal reports and publishing it in peer-reviewed journalsQualification:· Candidates must have either obtained a Ph.Ddegree within the last 24 months OR expect to acquire a Ph.D., preferably from a Canadian university, within the six months of application· Must have 2 publications ina refereed journalAbout the Position· Based at Chalk River Laboratories, Chalk River, Ontario, Canada· Honorarium of $55,000 per annum paid in instalments after making statutory deductions· In lieu of vacation payment of 4% of the annual honorarium· Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada· Candidates must have minimum 5 years traceable history to be considered for security clearance to work on site· Initial appointment will be for two years, with a possibility of extension for one additional year subject to satisfactory performanceApplication· Application should be submitted on-line· The candidates should provide the following with the applicationo List of conference and journal publications,o Scholarships and awards obtained o Copies of two representative publications, and o Contact information of at least two work pertinent referees CNL has an Employment Equity Program and encourages applications from women, Aboriginal Peoples, visible minorities and persons with disabilities.We thank all candidates for their interestOnly those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
