Consider bringing your professional expertise to the Provincial Schools BranchThe Resource Services Program at Ernest CDrury School in Milton requires a Resource Consultant to support the Deaf program This position is a 1.0 replacement position available immediately.You will: Provide educational and developmental support to families of Deaf and hard of hearing children from infancy to school age. Provide information to parents regarding Deafness and Deaf culture, communication and educational options. Develop strategies to enhance child development in areas such as language acquisition, communication, speech and auditory skills, signing skills and cultural, social and emotional growth. Assess students and prepare individual educational programs of instruction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Participate in case conferencing, IEP and IPRC meetings. Provide information and training to community service workers, board personnel and other professionals relating to Deafness and Deaf culture, language acquisition and self-esteem. Provide functional assessments for children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and propose adaptive program suggestions including recommending and offering techniques for monitoring student progress and proper use of auditory equipment. Conduct workshops and conferences on various topics relating to Deafness and Hard of Hearing. Participate in ongoing professional development activities. Provide professional leadership to other members of the multi-disciplinary team Participate in Professional Learning Communities within the Resource Services Program. Facilitate the Admission Process to the Provincial Schools for the Deaf. Create admission, observation reports and program/learning profiles for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.What we are looking for:Qualifications: Valid certificate of registration and qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers; Teacher of the Deaf Specialist qualifications or willingness to acquire (minimum Part II); Specialist in Special Education; American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to acquire. Abilities: Ability to successfully teach Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students; Ability to support students, families, district school boards, teachers and other stakeholders normally acquired through experience as a Resource Consultant/Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf; Excellent knowledge of the Education Act, associated regulations and funding related to special education; Ability to provide effective leadership; Ability to write and present educational reports and facilitate a variety of presentations using excellent interpersonal, and communication skills, including proficiency in English(oral and written); Demonstrated ability to approach education as part of a team; Ability to work independently; Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the province based on assigned caseload.
