Consider bringing your professional expertise to the Provincial Schools Branch The Resource Services Program at WRoss Macdonald School in Brantford requires Resource Consultants to support the Blind program. You will:o provide educational/developmental support to Blind, Visually Impaired students, including preschool children; o perform pre-braille assessments, create education plans and transition plans;o provide information to parents and other professionals regarding blindness/visual impairment, eye diseases and disorders and their educational implications;o provide early literacy and numeracy support; o provide adaptive program strategies for successful inclusion for students who are blind, visually impaired and visually impaired with multiple exceptionalities;o determine appropriate learning medium and assistive technology/devices for students; o develop strategies to enhance child development in areas such as, communication and social/emotional growth; o participate in case conferences, IPRC meetings, IEP meetings, with parents and other professionals;o provide functional vision assessments for students who are blind, visually impaired, and visually impaired with multiple exceptionalities;o prepare detailed assessment reports as a follow-up to functional vision assessment;o conduct workshops and conferences on various topics about blindness and visual impairment;o provide training on a variety of assistive technologies available for blind and low-vision students;o liaison with other department staff/community resources/professionals Location: WRoss Macdonald School, Brantford, ON Qualifications: o Valid Certification of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers; o Specialist Certificate as Teacher of the Blind Abilities: o Ability to successfully teach students who are blind, visually impaired and visually impaired with multiple exceptionalities;o Ability to support students, families, district school boards, teachers and other stakeholders normally acquired through experience as a Resource Consultant/Itinerant Teacher of the Blind, Visually Impairedo Excellent knowledge of the Education Act, associated regulations and funding related to special educationo Ability to provide effective leadershipo Ability to write and present educational reports and facilitate a variety of presentations using excellent interpersonal, and communication skills including proficiency in English and Braille o Knowledge of adaptive technology needs including ability to determine appropriate learning medium, methods and materials to assist learning in visually impaired children;o Proficiency in assistive technology;o Demonstrated ability to approach education as part of a multi-disciplinary team o Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the province based on assigned caseload.
